About Chad Prey
Founder of PreyTech — two decades in the trenches of web, systems, and marketing technology.
I have a degree in Literature from UC Santa Cruz, so it’s understandable that people sometimes underestimate my technical chops. But being self-taught teaches you that learning is a skill, and if you’re willing to keep learning, it can take you to some unexpected places.
Early in my career, I worked at startups building high-volume email marketing and click tracking server infrastructure at the dawn of technical marketing. In 2002, I started PTS (Prey Technical Services) where I did a little of everything. Along the way I've been a webmaster, sysadmin, data analyst, application developer, and solutions architect. The best part of wearing that many hats: you get to touch a lot of pieces of a business and gain the kind of wide experience a single-track career doesn't give you.
I leveraged this experience to help large organizations to thrive on the Internet. At Petco, my team and I created the AWS and on-premises cloud solutions. At GoFundMe, I simplified and modernized the development stack so they could safely scale the engineering organization by 200 people and release more frequently. I've worked on systems at the scale of Petco, GoFundMe, NBC Universal, NFL events, etc., and now I'm bringing that level of technical thinking to businesses that normally couldn't afford or access it. Omnichannel isn't just a buzzword, I've implemented it at scale.
Tech fads fade, but good taste, warmth, and humanity never go out of style. Good technical work still depends on judgment, empathy, and an understanding of what a business and its customers actually need. I've based my consulting on integrity, honesty, and doing what's right for my customers.
The Internet is vast and confusing, and you have a business to run. It can be difficult to know whether growth is being limited by an outdated application, a website customers cannot find, or marketing systems that do not connect attention to results. I bring those disciplines together: custom applications and forms, practical modernization, self-managed websites, technical SEO, AEO and GEO, email marketing, and paid campaign execution. The goal is straightforward, help your business get seen and turn more of that attention into action.
PTS is now rebranded as PreyTech, but it's still me on the keyboard or on the call.
